It is with great regret that we advise of the passing of Bryan Dawson, 1st Grade player #25, on 22 May. Bryan joined the Club for the 1966-67 season after playing five seasons in 1st Grade for Gordon between 1961-62 and 1965-66, during which he scored 2042 runs at 26.2, with two centuries. He made his 1st Grade debut for Sutherland on 24 September 1966 and played in the 1st Grade Final at the end of that season.
Bryan played three seasons in 1st Grade between 1966-67 and 1968-69, scoring 890 runs at 23.4 in 33 matches, with a highest score of 85. Between 1969-70 and 1976-77, he played 22 matches in 2nd Grade for 452 runs at 20.5 and 89 matches in 3rd Grade for 1628 runs at 21.1. He captained 3rd Grade in 1970-71 and 1973-74 and 2nd Grade in 1976-77 – a total of 47 matches. In all for SDCC, he played 144 matches and scored 2970 runs at 21.7. He was a member of the 3rd Grade premiership team in 1975-76. He also served three years on the Management Committee, 1973-75 and 1976-77.
After he finished playing with SDCC, Bryan later returned to Gordon, captaining 5th Grade for three seasons from 1984-85 to 1986-87. To Bryan’s wife Jan and the rest of his family, we extend our sincere condolences.
