This was the first time that we played on 29 February. We had two wins. 1sts played a one-day match after day one was washed out – Sutherland 9/173 dec (John Dyson 37, Darrell Mann 34, Justin Kenny 30) d. Mosman 129 (Phil Weatherall 4-47, Glenn McGrath 3-49, Darrell Mann 2-9) at Rawson Park.
5ths completed a convincing outright win after starting their match the previous week – Sutherland 1/49 dec (Mathew Duff 32no) & 1/79 (Mathew Duff 36no, Trent Harvey 29no) d. Mosman 47 (Matthew Brennan 3-10, Col Christie 2-2, Alex Mann 2-6, Stuart Clark 2-15) & 77 (Jason Holley 4-26, Matthew Brennan 3-23, Stuart Clark 2-18) at Tonkin Oval.

This was the second time that we played on 29 February, interestingly also against Mosman. It was day one of a two-day round. Shaun Thornton scored the only century, 104 in 3rd Grade, while Tyson Gilbert (5-41 in 4th Grade) and Joel Almond (5-28 in 5th Grade) were the best of the bowlers.

Des Lawrence took 5-58 in the second innings in 4th Grade vs Waverley at Tonkin Oval. He took 7-39 in the first innings the previous week to give him match figures of 12-97.

The Club held its 50th Anniversary Dinner, celebrating the Club’s 50th year in the Sydney first grade cricket competition. As part of the dinner, the Best Team of the Club’s 50 years was announced:

Sutherland played Western Suburbs in the Poidevin-Gray Shield final at Sydney University Oval. The match was washed out before a result was achieved and the final was replayed the following week.
Sutherland 2/42 (Matthew Probert 24) drew with Western Suburbs 163 (Daniel McLauchlan 4-32, Scott Manning 3-32, Paul Byrom 2-32).
